My Top 5 Road Trip Movies

5. Elizabethtown

Hold on. Wait just a minute. Before you judge me, let me defend my choice here. This movie, although it walks and talks like a chick flick, is really all about the road trip. Drew Baylor, played by Orlando Bloom, finds himself and his roots as he travels down south for his father's memorial. Like all self-respecting trip movies, he meets some crazy people along the way. This movie is great for chicks and dudes alike. Check it out the next time you're looking for a great rainy day movie.

*If you're still not convinced, you must watch this film simply for Paula Deen's film debut. Yes, that's right, the cooking queen of the South is in this movie. Enjoy.

4. Thelma & Louise

Two friends take off in a '66 Thunderbird in a whirlwind adventure after killing a man. Need I say more?

3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Not really what you were expecting on a road trip movie list, right? Why not? It has all the major ingredients:

~Traveling
~Mission
~Mission gets delayed by some unforeseen circumstances
~Comic relief sidekicks
~Weird strangers met along the way
~Everyone learns something about themselves
~In the end, everything works out for the best (oops, spoiler alert!)

All in all, these are just fantastic movies. Breath-taking landscapes, marvelous characters, excellent plot, mesmerizing soundtrack. It has everything that any true adventurer (or nerdy sci-fi convention attendee) could want.

2. The Go-Getter

This is a great little film with a superb soundtrack featuring M. Ward. It stars Lou Taylor Pucci, Zooey Deschanel along with a cast of other wonderfully odd misfits. The trailer gives you a great taste as to the adventures that Mercer (Pucci) encounters along the way. He gets to experience a lot of his life for the very first time. This movie will make you smile, laugh, and wish you could be a real "go-getter".

Drumroll please....

1. Into the Wild

This is the quintessential movie for anyone who has ever daydreamed of getting away from it all. Based on the book by Jon Krakauer, the story follows Christopher McCandless a.k.a Alexander Supertramp as he decides to take off for the wilds of Alaska in the spring of 1992. Read the book, watch the film, experience the joy and pain along side Supertramp as he finds adventure, himself, and a little truth.

The cinematography and soundtrack are absolutely gorgeous. Pearl Jam's frontman, Eddie Vedder provides the background music for the film. Please, watch this movie. Trust me, you will be blown away.

How about you? Do you have one to add to the list? What's your favorite road trip movie?
