My Last Blog Post

It's all over!!

This is my sixtieth and last blog post.
I am off to many new adventures and excitements.
I would like to leave you with a poem.
The railroad track is miles away,
And the day is loud with voices speaking,
Yet there isn't a train goes by all day
But I hear its whistle shrieking.
All night there isn't a train goes by,
Though the night is still for sleep and dreaming,
But I see its cinders red on the sky,
And hear its engine steaming.
My heart is warm with friends I make,
And better friends I'll not be knowing;
Yet there isn't a train I'd rather take,
No matter where it's going.

Our Last Year

Senior year brings a lot of "lasts".
Here's a picture from my last prom.
In a time celebrating lasts, it is important to live in the moment and drink it all in. School has flown by furiously, but the last few weeks seem to drag. Soak it all up because these memories will be good until the last drop.
Enjoy it.
Enjoy the last two weeks.
Enjoy that really cheesy paragraph.

Our Last Choir Concert

Tuesday marked my last choir concert with Indian Valley.
I am ready to graduate, but I am going to miss this.
Thank you for a wonderful four years, everybody.

Our Nation's Capital

Yesterday, our branch of National Honor Society visited Washington, D.C.
Sam and I made a lot of new friends.

Sam and our friend in front of a Good Humor cart. The Good Humor man was shy, so he got this guy to fill in for him in the picture.

Without a doubt, this is the tallest and most adorable park ranger I have ever met.

Army Man.

Abraham Lincoln's security officer. His name is J.

Don, George, and LaVern fought together in WWII. LaVern turns 91 on the 27th of May.

This man did not speak English. He thought we wanted him to take off his glasses.

This is Jeremy. He lives in Montreal.

One hundred middle school students from Cleveland.

It's amazing who you can meet when you take the time to talk to a stranger.

Do it today. You won't regret it.

Pranksters

Have you ever thought to yourself upon watching a musical

"That would never happen in real life! Who just burts into song in a crowded place like that?"

Check this out!!!!

Ukulele

I play the ukulele. Well, it is better to say that I attempt to play the ukulele. I know a few songs, but really I am just starting. In learning to play songs that sound pretty on the ukulele, I came across a woman named Ingrid Michaelson. She makes playing the uke look cool. Click the picture below to check her out.
I saw her live with my mother just the other day and she was fabulous!! There was a moment in the concert when the band abruptly stopped playing in the middle of a song. They shared a meaningful look and then sprinted around the stage. Ingrid ran to the drums, the bassist ran to lead, the keyboard player ran to the uke, and so on. Thy picked up the song as though nothing had happened. The band was more like a family than a group of musicians.
It is safe to say that she is my favorite artist to date.

I Kind of Have a Thing for the Bad Boys

Disney movies are corrupting our youth.

Have you ever noticed that the bad guys in Disney movies always get the coolest songs? While the hero or heroine is singing some high pitched soliloquy about dreaming and wishing for their lives to be different, the bad guys are singing about getting the job done for themselves. The bad guys get the horns, the groovy beats, and the low basso profundos. The good guys get the flute solos, girly tenor voices, and chimes. It's simply awful.
What message does this send to the children?
Be good: You get the lamest songs, but at least it's the first one of the movie, and, hey, that piccolo jam halfway through is kind of swell, right?
Be evil: You get to jam out to awesome beats and dance around singing in a deliosiously sexy voice. Your song always ends in a powerful crescendo and is almost always in a minor key. (Also, there is an 80% chance you will be found laying down some sweet Bach piece on your massive pipe organ later in the movie).
It seems to me that the true moral of all Disney stories is this: Be evil...you'll never have to sing a lame song in a boring minor key about birds and cherubs and wishing ever again.
