Googling.

The letter of the day is L.

I typed L in Google and it gave me some really helpful suggestions for searches. Lady Gaga…love quotes…Lands End…..L. L. Zamenhof. That’s right. Google wants me to learn about L. L. Zamenhof.

Ludovic Lazarus Zamenhof was born on December 15, 1859 in Russia. He invented Esperanto. Apparently, Esperanto is a language. He wanted to form an international second language so that all countries could communicate with one another fairly easily. Of course it never really achieved the popularity that Mr. Zamenhof dreamed of, but it is accepted as a language.

I suppose Ludovic could not have guessed that the US would simply force everyone to learn English as their second language by simply refusing to learn any other nation’s language. We’re really clever that way… exerting our superiority by being willfully ignorant. Ah, America, land that I love…

I thought I would end this marvelously educational post with a joke that I learned from a Romanian friend, Tunna.

What do you call a person who speaks two languages?
~Bilingual
What do you call a person who speaks three languages?
~Trilingual
What do you call a person who speaks one language?

Are there pockets of people somewhere speaking Esperanto? If not, perhaps we could resurrect it-- go along with that global currency the IMF is pushing for. Would be rather chic to speak Esperanto.
